About Course

The Program for Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) for Preschoolers is a 16-week social skills treatment program, with empirical support and parent assistance, for young children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder who have difficulties in their interactions with peers and friends. Target audience: mental health professionals, school professionals, medical professionals, speech-language pathologists, occupational, recreational and behavioral therapists, researchers and other professionals working with children ages 4-6 with social challenges.

What Will You Learn?

  • N In this full three-day course, the core concepts of the model, its usefulness through development and related evidence will be presented, as well as teaching step-by-step and in detail the model and the program to be replicated in the regular clinic. With this course, you will be trained and certified by the UCLA PEERS Clinic to use the program with children from 4 to 6 years old with social challenges, both face-to-face and online.
What will we see in this course?

During each group session, children are taught fundamental social and play skills through a live puppet show, followed by a variety of games and activities designed to rehearse newly learned skills and reinforce skill development in a naturalistic setting.

Parents attend separate sessions simultaneously and are taught how to help their children make and maintain friendships. To maximize parent training, each session includes a parent-led game, which consists of simulated play dates between group members, during which parents receive feedback from the treatment team on their performance in social training.

  • Material to accompany the course translated into Portuguese.
  • Pre-gravid sessions of preschool children.
  • Additionally, the conclusion of this course includes:
  • All the necessary materials in digital format to successfully implement your own PEERS® for Preschoolers program: the training material, the presentations to support the 16 sessions, material for the country (booklets, game cards and homework), videos of fun and training for the country, the PEERS® for Preschoolers manual in Portuguese.
  • Experience in administering the PEERS® program for preschoolers in educational or clinical settings.
  • Double certification: official certificate as a PEERS® Certified Preschool Provider and official certificate as a PEERS® Teleschool Provider, issued by the UCLA PEERS Clinic, with the following certification
  • Inclusion in the directory of Certified Providers of PEERS® for UCLA Pre-schools.
